Another note from Baruma:
I am delighted to receive a further clarification from the professor.  He looked at the “Sad Sack” cartoon and identified the entry to Paris where the soldier was told not to enter as Porte Orleans.  Apparently American troops were indeed kept out of Paris until the Free French army had gone in.  That would have provided the opportunity for a bit of cleaning up.  I have never heard any eyewitness report except that of my friend.
